Manual Glass Dog Gate

IMPORTANT - Fits Door Jambs Only This Glass Dog Gate is designed to mount only to a door jamb - the vertical frame surface on each side of a door or wall opening. The hinges and lock keep fasten into this vertical jamb. It cannot be mounted to glass, drywall alone, baseboards, or across an open span with no jamb. A solid vertical jamb (wood or metal) is required.

At Fab Glass and Mirror, we believe your dog's safety shouldn't come at the cost of your home's design. Our tempered glass dog gate combines luxury and function as a barrier your pet can actually see, in a material that still looks new years from now.

Most "Clear" Dog Gates Aren't Actually Glass

Perfect Fit Protection – Zero-Stress Sizing

Search for a clear pet gate and you'll find the same thing over and over: plastic. These panels are marketed as glass-look gates, then scratch within weeks, yellow within months, and start looking cheap before your dog has grown out of the puppy stage.

Long-term material safety is the bigger issue. Dogs paw and scratch at barriers, and that quickly leaves acrylic covered in deep scratches and micro-abrasions that weaken the panel over time. Tempered glass resists pet claws and daily wear, holding both its structural integrity and its finish which matters most at the top of a staircase.

You shouldn't have to choose between a barrier that actually protects your dog and one that looks like a leftover shower curtain. There is a better material for a stair pet gate, and it isn't plastic.

Introducing

The Glass Pet Gate

Fab Glass and Mirror has manufactured premium tempered glass for shower doors, partitions and tabletops across the country for over a decade. Now we're bringing that same glass and the same craftsmanship to your dog gate.

Clear tempered glass, not plastic

3/8" or 1/2" clear safety glass, engineered to ASTM C1048 and CPSC 16 CFR 1201 the same standards used in architectural glazing.

Custom etching

Etched with your dog's breed silhouette, a geometric pattern, a botanical design, or your own artwork supplied as a TIF file.

Built to be seen

The etched design gives dogs and guests a clear visual cue, so the gate functions as a real barrier rather than an invisible hazard while still letting light through.

Made and shipped in the USA

No overseas production delay. Every glass pet gate is cut, edged and finished domestically, with free nationwide shipping on every order.

Key Features

What Makes This Gate Different

01 / Visibility

Perfect Fit Protection – Zero-Stress Sizing

This is the first question we get, and it's the right one to ask. Fully clear barriers plastic or glass – are genuinely easy for a dog to misjudge. Our etching process creates a subtle, textured pattern across the panel that dogs perceive at a distance, without blocking natural light the way a solid door or wood gate would.

— Visual cues for canine vision. Dogs register textured etching immediately, recognising the barrier without losing the daylight.

— High contrast works hardest. Designs that contrast with the background stand out most; because dogs don't perceive the full colour spectrum humans do, high-contrast etching on clear glass is particularly effective.

— Consistency builds recognition. Meeting the same design at the same place teaches your dog to associate it with an obstacle.

— Personalised style. Breed silhouettes, modern geometric lines, botanical motifs, or your own pet portrait.

02 / Material

Architectural-Grade Tempered Safety Glass

Crafted from heavy-duty 3/8" (10mm) or 1/2" (12mm) toughened glass—the same material specified for frameless luxury shower doors and exterior glass balustrades.

— Impact resistant. Rated for large, high-energy breeds.

— Breaks safely. If broken, tempered glass fractures into small blunt granules rather than sharp shards, per CPSC 16 CFR 1201.

— Non-porous surface. Drool, nose prints and slobber wipe off with any standard glass cleaner, with no scratching or cloudiness over time.

03 / Hardware

Precision Hardware And Custom Finishes

— Hinge-mounted and secure. Solid stainless-steel wall-mounted hinges give rigid stability at the top of stairs, in doorways, and across open-plan thresholds.

— Secure locking latch. A positive-action lock with indicator, rated for glass this thickness. Installation requires drilling.

— Three finishes. Oil rubbed bronze, brushed nickel, or polished chrome.

— Zero guesswork. Every piece is precision-cut to your exact doorway, hallway or staircase with no awkward gaps at the edges.

Buying Guide

Which Glass Dog Gate Is Right For Your Home?

Four common situations, and what we'd specify for each.

For Stairs

Go Thicker, Always Hinge-Mount

Choose 1/2" glass and the hinge-mounted hardware kit. Stair openings take more daily stress than a doorway gate, and the extra thickness adds rigidity exactly where it matters most for a safe clear dog gate for stairs.

Choose Your Design And See The Price

For Rental Apartments

Lighter Load, Minimal Drilling

Go with 3/8" glass for a lighter panel. Only minimal drilling is required to secure the hinges and locking mechanism worth confirming with your landlord before you order.

For Large Or High-Energy Breeds

Maximum Visibility And Durability

Labradors, Shepherds, Goldendoodles and similar: 1/2" glass plus a breed-etched or geometric pattern gives you the most visible and most durable barrier we make.

For Wide, Open-Concept Doorways

Measure The Full Opening First

Most homes fall in the 28"–42" range, which our standard sizes cover. Wider than that and we'll cut a custom pet gate to your measurement on request.

The Comparison

Why Tempered Glass Beats Metal, Wood And Acrylic

For decades pet owners have been forced to choose between unsightly wire-and-wood gates and cheap plastic barriers that ruin the visual flow of a home. Clear plastic seemed like the fix, but it scratches within days, warps over time, and creates a genuine visual hazard for pets.

Material Tubular steel, cheap pine 1/4" plexiglass / acrylic 3/8" or 1/2" tempered safety glass

Contact us
Can dogs actually see a glass gate?

Yes. Our clear glass and etched designs both create a visible boundary so your dog can clearly register the gate, unlike plain acrylic or unmarked glass panels that dogs can misjudge or walk into. The etched pattern gives a high-contrast visual cue that dogs perceive at a distance without blocking natural light.

Is tempered glass safe for a pet gate?

Tempered safety glass is engineered to meet U.S. federal safety glazing standards under CPSC 16 CFR 1201 and, if broken, fractures into small blunt granules rather than sharp shards. It's the same specification used in frameless shower doors and exterior glass balustrades.

How is this different from an acrylic pet gate?

Acrylic scratches, yellows and flexes over time, particularly where dogs paw at the barrier. Tempered glass resists pet claws and daily wear, stays optically clear, and holds a premium finish for years. Acrylic panels also tend to be fully transparent and unmarked, which is exactly what dogs misjudge.

Can I use this as a stair gate for dogs?

Yes. Our glass stair gate for dogs works for doorways, hallways and stairs. Choose the height and width that fits your space, or request a custom size. For stair openings we recommend the thicker glass option and the hinge-mounted hardware kit, because stair gates take more daily stress than a doorway gate.

Do you offer custom sizes?

Yes. Beyond our standard 28"–42" widths, we cut to your exact measurements so there are no awkward gaps at the edges of the opening.

How long does it take to receive my gate?

Because each gate is made to order in our own US facility, please allow standard production time before dispatch. Shipping is free and handled within the continental USA.

What thickness of glass should I choose?

Choose 3/8" (10mm) for most homes and standard doorways. Choose 1/2" (12mm) for larger and higher-energy breeds such as Labradors, Shepherds and Goldendoodles, for wider spans, and for stair openings where extra rigidity matters most.
